Jiffy peat pots are an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic pots. They are
100% biodegradable and are approved for organic production. Filled with substrate of your choice, they are ideal for starting seeds and rooting cuttings. Once established, the rooted plant, together with the Jiffy pot, can be transplanted directly into the ground thereby preventing any damage to the newly formed root system and reducing the risk of transplant stress. The roots will simply grow through the sides and base of the pot as the Jiffy degrades. Proteas and other similar crops with sensitive root systems benefit from propagation in Jiffy pots.
Another major advantage of Jiffy pots is that by directly transplanting the pot into the ground or other growing media and not needing to remove the plant from the pot beforehand, makes them very efficient in terms of saving both time and labour. Jiffy pots and trays are made from peat and wood pulp; therefore, they have limitations in terms of integrity when wet. They are best used in conjunction with a plastic growing tray.
